Bio (Doug Kobayashi)
Doug Kobayashi, CD, B.Eng., M.Sc., P.Eng. Doug attended his first two years of university at Royal Roads Military College and received his undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering (First Class Honours) from Royal Military College of Canada. He obtained a Master's of Science degree in aeronautical engineering from the College of Aeronautics at CranfieldUniversity in England, where he received the British Aerospace Thesis Prize for his post-graduate thesis in fracture mechanics. Doug also attended the Executive Management Program from the Darden Graduate School of Business Administration, University of Virginia.
Doug was employed as a professional engineer and senior executive in the aerospace industry for 27 years. His past positions in the aerospace industry include: Vice President Engineering of CAE Aviation, Vice President Technical Services and Vice President Corporate Planning and Development of Conair Aviation (now Cascade Aerospace), President and Chief Executive Officer of Dee Howard Aircraft (now Singapore Aerospace) in San Antonio, Texas, and Vice President and General Manager of Spar Aerospace. After retiring, Doug formed Think Strategy, a management consulting firm specializing in strategic planning, business re-engineering, and performance management systems. In 2009, Doug retired and relocated to Victoria, BC. Since this time, Doug has acquired two businesses in the food services industry; however, he still provides management consulting services on a pro-bono basis.
Doug is the recipient of the Canadian Merit Award, Canadian Decoration, and the Canada 125 Medal. Doug is a registered Professional Engineer of Alberta. Doug's past extracurricular activities include the Rotary Club, United Way Director, Executive Director of the Namao International Air Show, Member of the Canadian Aeronautics and Space Institute, and most recently President of the 2014 Board of Directors of the Westshore Chamber of Commerce. Doug is heavily involved in the community and is presently a member of the City of Colwood Finance and Administration Committee and the City of Colwood Economic Development Committee. Doug presently resides in Colwood with his wife of 35 years and has one daughter, a petroleum engineer with Shell Canada.
